In the late 1970's a Canadian Psychologist, Jimmy Scott Ph.D, developed a unique system called Health Kinesiology.  Each session is tailor-made to the client and targets unique patterns for the individual.
 
Health Kinesiology practitioners use a locked/unlocked response of an isolated muscle to conduct a dialogue with the person's energy system. Once conscious permission to work is given the client is invited to lie on the couch fully clothed. The HK practitioner initially balances the meridian energy system and asks for energy permission to proceed.

The HK practitioner asks verbal questions and monitors the muscle response. If the tested muscle gives a locked response it signifies a "yes" while an unlocked muscle signifies a "no".  HK uses a rigorous system of asking verbal questions to hone in quickly on which of their established protocols is the best method of helping the client.

People who have used HK have reported benefits in their ability to function better intellectually, reduce clumsiness, improve memory and increase their own self-confidence amongst other things. Applied Kinesiology is performed by health care professionals. First, they have their basic education is what ever field they practice. For example, they might be a medical doctor, osteopath, chiropractor or a dentist. They then study Applied Kinesiology in a post graduate setting. 

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a system that evaluates structural, chemical and mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing with other standard methods of diagnosis.

The practitioner using AK finds a muscle that is unbalanced and then attempts to determine why that muscle is not functioning properly.  The practitioner works out the treatment that will best balance the patient's muscles.

Treatments may involve specific joint manipulation or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture skills, clinical nutrition, dietary management, counselling skills, evaluating environmental irritants and various reflex procedures.

AK uses the Triad of Health.  That is Chemical, Mental and Structural factors that balance the major health categories.

The Triad of Health is interactive and all sides must be evaluated for the underlying cause of a problem.  A health problem on one side of the triad can affect the other sides.  For example, a chemical imbalance can cause mental symptoms.  AK enables the doctor to evaluate the triad's balance and direct therapy toward the imbalanced side or sides.

AK skills are developed and approved by the International College of Applied Kinesiology Board of Standards.  These skills are refined from many disciplines including Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Medicine, Dentistry, Acupuncture, Biochemistry, Psychology, Homeopathy, and Naturopathy etc.  Members of these professions share knowledge through the publications and conferences of the International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK).
