In 2000, Penny Davey began the five-year training to become an ICPKP practitioner and Kinesiopractor®. (ICPKP = International College of Professional Kinesiology Practice.) Penny has also taken ‘Touch for Health’ (1-4), Brain Gym® 101, anatomy and physiology courses, and trained in Thought Field Therapy. She has studied homeopathy and various other subjects, such as flower essences, essential oils, crystal healing and Reiki 1 & 2, Biokinetic Exercises and RESET (for tempero-mandibular joint (TMJ) related problems). In 2007 Penny took the K-Power® Instructor Training and in 2013 qualified as an ICPKP Instructor and now teaches the one-year ICPKP Certificate Course as well as 14 K-Power® workshops: one- and two-day kinesiology workshops covering a range of subjects, such as testing and correcting groups of muscles, emotional stress release, Epigenetics, Tibetan Healing Energy, face-reading, co-dependency and New Zealand Flower Essences. All courses and workshops are suitable for both therapists (as CPD) and the general public and are a useful tool for self-development. Penny says, “My mission in life is to introduce people to kinesiology, and in particular PKP. As an advocate of prevention being better than cure, my work involves not only helping people to get better, but also in giving them tools to handle the stresses of life, recover quickly from setbacks and prevent illness or distress arising in the first place. It would be wonderful if, when people felt unwell, they thought, “I must make an appointment to see my kinesiologist” rather than going to their doctor!” What is PKP? PKP (Professional Kinesiology Practice) was developed by Dr Bruce Dewe and his wife, Joan Dewe MA, in the 1970s. They created the International College of Professional Kinesiology Practice Programme and K-Power workshops, all of which are now taught in 12 countries. Dr and Mrs Dewe, and their organisation, have continued to grow and improve the ICPKP course and K-Power workshops, all of which are now also available on iPad. PKP is different from the medical approach, as it doesn’t involve the diagnosis of diseases, carrying out of medical tests, prescribing of remedies, or treatment of symptoms. Instead, the focus is on what the person would like if they didn’t have the problem. It takes into account all aspects of a person’s health and life, such as diet and exercise, emotions, posture, pain or physical limitations, chemical and hormonal balance, work and relationships. As each aspect affects all the others, they all need to be in balance. PKP practitioners have access to over 400 techniques and are always guided by the person’s body as to which to use. The focus is on the person gaining awareness of their feelings, beliefs and why the problem might exist, and how they can make changes and handle uncontrollable and unpredictable challenges in life in the best way possible. They are very involved in the session as we explore current, past and future events and issues.
